DA-08 STRIPPING ROOM & WIPING DOWN

Dental chairs and their surrounds must be decontaminated after each use. First, we remove all contaminated items from the environment, taking reusable instruments to steri to be reprocessed. We carry these contaminated items in a lidded, puncture resistant container. We then decontaminate the room and chair by wiping with neutral detergent. We may also use an additional disinfectant afterwards; however, this is not mandatory as a thorough room wipedown performed correctly with neutral detergent is enough to achieve clean work surfaces.

At Dental Boutique we use neutral detergent wipes to do this, as it is highly efficient at removing pathogens from hard surfaces. We do not rely solely on disinfectant, as the contact time and amount of saturation required varies considerably between products. Disinfectant does not kill all pathogens and does not always remove bioburden or decontaminate surfaces effectively. Therefore, we rely on thorough wipedown techniques with neutral detergent as a minimum, and the addition of a disinfecting step for any area deemed as requiring it.

Full PPE is worn when we decontaminate rooms.
